FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

1. What is the Club?

The Club is a volunteer led space for the community, principally acting as a live music venue, but also available for bookings by local organisations and societies. Explore this website for more information on what we have to offer.

2. When are you open?

The Club’s normal opening hours are 7 pm to midnight, Thursday to Saturday. Any changes to these times (for particular events, for example) will be publicised on Facebook, and may be detailed immediately below.

Christmas Eve: The Club is open from 7:00 pm until late on Tuesday, 24 December

Christmas Day: The Club is open from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm (13:30) on Wednesday, 25 December

Boxing Day: The Club is open from 6:30 pm on Thursday, 26 December.

On occasion, the club may open early for rugby on TV. However, this depends upon there being a volunteer available, and is usually arranged at short notice – keep an eye on Facebook!

3. What is membership, and why should I become a member?

Membership is the very low price of £5 per year.

The Club operates on a not for profit basis, and so your membership fees support this community resource, and also go towards improving facilities at the club.

In addition, members are entitled to a discount, when purchasing tickets for our “Ticket Only” events! See below.

4. Do you charge entry?

Entry to the club is normally free, and this includes the majority of our band nights, and the regular, fortnightly, Open Mic nights.

Occasionally, the Club organises “Ticket Only” events. For more information on these see here.

Note that occasionally the Club may hire out space to third parties, and they may charge admittance to their event.

5. Is the Club’s bar open on “Ticket Only” nights to people not coming to hear the band?

Yes – whenever possible we also open a bar in the smaller room. Where demand is clearly low, it may be staffed by a volunteer – but you can let the person on the door know you are waiting for a drink and they will give the volunteer a shout !

6. Do you allow children?

Yes, during the early evening. However, our licence does not permit children to be in attendance from 9 pm onwards.

7. Do you serve food?

Generally no. However, we often host food nights and these will be publicised on Facebook and noted in our Events Schedules/This Week web pages.

We are also happy for you to order a takeaway to be consumed on the premises. See here for details and how to book a table and cutlery/crockery!

8. What parking do you have, and is there a charge?

The club has its own car park, parking on a small side road outside the club, but also a large council run car park next door, and there are no parking charges.

9. Are you affiliated to the British Legion?

The premises used to be occupied by the British Legion, and the Club became informally known as “Machen Legion”. However, we are not officially affliated.

10. Anything else?

If you have a question that might be appropriate to the FAQ, why not send it to us. If we see enough people asking the same question, we’ll add it here!
